Hi there! My name is Bonnie James. I am an art and pre-dental student studying at Saginaw Valley State University. I believe that having a strong foundation in art will elevate my abilities as a future dentist. Which is exactly why I am taking the time to study both before applying to dental school.
I have been sculpting since around age 6, but I didn’t start taking it seriously as a hobby until 2018. My first projects were all hand sculpted clay beads that I used to make necklaces inspired by Buddhist prayer beads (Japamala). I would also occasionally make small figurines and magnets. I loved to spread joy with my crafts but never saw it as something I could make a career from.
Fast-forward to 2021, I had just received my associates in psychology and was working full time as a paraprofessional. I loved working in education, but it didn’t allow me room to continue growing and investing in my own future. I needed a new challenge. In spring 2022 I had a bad cavity and had to take myself to the dentist for the first time as an adult. My fears had me googling everything I needed to know about fillings, crowns, root canals…ect. Through this personal research, I actual discovered the information to be interesting and found myself talking about it with everyone I know. By summer 2022 I had my first job as a dental assistant and earned my RDA license. I always knew I was destined to return to school. I am so happy that to have a clear vision of how I can use my skills and interest to help those around me.
Cuspid Craft is my newest project that will incorporate all of my latest art works, as well as blog entries with topics surrounding my experiences in school. My goal is to use my skills in art to pay for dental school! :-)
